Changes in Odesa Region: New Names for Localities
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recently endorsed the proposals from local residents to rename two settlements in the Artsiz community in Odesa region – the village of Novokholmske and the village of Kholmske.
On May 5, a draft resolution titled "On the Renaming of Certain Localities" was registered, proposing the renaming of nineteen geographical objects across Ukraine, including two in Odesa region.
The document states that both requests were submitted by the Artsiz City Council.
The renaming of the village Kholmske was initiated by its residents, who wish to restore its historical name, Selioglo, which was used until the Soviet government renamed it in 1946.
The village of Novokholmske is planned to be renamed Aliyahu, a decision supported by local residents during public hearings. This choice is explained by the fact that there was previously a railway station by the same name nearby.
