Infrastructure Recovery in Odesa After Floods

In Odesa, efforts are underway to restore Rybalska Balka street after severe flooding that occurred on September 30. This street was significantly impacted by water flow that eroded soil and destroyed roadways.

Local residents claim they haven't seen such a flood in decades. The situation was further complicated by unauthorized works conducted on the slope, where a sanatorium is located. Heavy machinery damaged parts of the area, resulting in a risk of the sanatorium's fence collapsing.

According to Odesa's first deputy mayor, Oleksandr Filatov, a number of legal violations regarding land ownership were discovered during the recovery process.

This involves two state acts issued based on a court decision that granted ownership rights to lands that belong to the community.

Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov indicated that the city authorities have started checking all ownership documents related to developments along the balka and are preparing legal challenges against privatizing community land without approval from local authorities.

Municipal services continue to clear the area of mud and debris.

Currently, temporary drainage solutions are being implemented, and a new collector project is underway to ensure the future stability of Rybalska Balka street.
