Tree Removal and Planting Initiatives in Odesa for 2025
At the beginning of 2025, the municipal enterprise «Miskzelentrest» in Odesa has successfully removed 958 dangerous and dead trees, alongside uprooting over 800 stumps.
This work was carried out in response to citizen requests, during adverse weather conditions, or as part of urban improvement programs.
This autumn, the plan is to plant approximately 1000 young trees, including ashes, sophoras, linden, maples, and others. Most of these will be planted where the uprooted trees once stood. All new trees are large-caliber and suitable for urban settings.
The stump removal process is quite challenging. Until this year, the municipal workers lacked specialized equipment, which complicated the task significantly. However, with the introduction of new machinery such as the Rotor Speedy 80/100 stump grinder and the KATA KF1404 tractor with 140 horsepower, the work is now conducted more efficiently.
With the new equipment, landscapers have greatly reduced the time required for these physically demanding tasks through mechanization: previously, manual stump removal was scheduled for 12 hours, but now the removal of a stump with a diameter of 70 cm takes only 40 minutes.
