Combatting Ragweed in Odessa: New Measures
Odessa has entered the ragweed blooming season. Local services are taking action against this allergenic weed that poses a health risk.
Common ragweed is classified as a quarantine weed that significantly harms not only agriculture but also human health.
To prevent the spread of ragweed, the Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrust» initiates grass mowing and additional work a month before the blooming starts. They utilize the natural substance «Bishofit» sprayed with special equipment (about 300 liters per hectare). This solution penetrates the plant through its leaves, causing rapid wilting, while being safe for both people and the environment.
The Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrust» reminds that according to the «Rules of Urban Improvement in Odessa», the responsibility for weed elimination lies with the property owners and users, ranging from businesses to private homeowners.
Compliance with improvement rules is monitored by the relevant department: if ragweed is found, they issue directives and compile protocols in complex cases.
According to the Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrust», there are currently no large ragweed infestations detected in the city.
According to the Ukrainian Law «On Plant Quarantine», measures for the elimination of quarantine organisms on land plots are carried out by the landowners and users at their own expense. The inspectors from the control department of the Municipal Enterprise «Miskzelentrust» have the authority to compile administrative protocols in case of non-compliance with weed elimination requirements, which are forwarded to the administrative commission of the Odessa City Council.
Protocols are compiled in accordance with Article 152 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, which carries fines: for individuals - from 340 UAH to 1360 UAH, for officials and business entities - from 850 UAH to 1700 UAH.
