Illegal Logging in Bereziv District: Father and Son Under Investigation
Authorities in Bereziv District have apprehended a father and his son for engaging in illegal logging activities. The 56-year-old man was found cutting down 51 trees while his 17-year-old son assisted in the operation.
Police officers discovered them in a protective forest area owned by the Petrovyriv community. They seized a "VAZ" vehicle with a trailer, felled trees, and a chainsaw as evidence.
An economic examination revealed that the damage to the community amounted to 68,652 hryvnias. Both the father and son face charges for illegal logging in protective forest plantations, causing significant harm, and working in conspiracy. This crime is classified under part 2 of Article 246 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison. Additionally, the father is charged for involving his son in illegal activities, which can lead to a sentence of up to 10 years.
The case has been forwarded to court, where the Bereziv District Prosecutor's Office will support the prosecution.
