Remarkable Achievements by Ukrainian Karate Athletes at the World Championship
From October 9 to 13, the city of Lido di Jesolo (Italy) hosted the world championship for cadets, juniors, and youth. This prestigious tournament, located near Venice, gathered over 2000 young athletes from 117 countries, setting a new record.
Representing Ukraine, the team consisted of 38 athletes from 17 clubs across 9 regions, including 8 competitors from Odesa.
Fifteen-year-old karateka Maksym Vechkanov (Royal Team Sports Club, coached by Volodymyr Zaretsky and Oleksiy Konovalov) won the gold medal in the cadet category under 52 kg.
This world championship gold adds to Maksym's silver medal from the European championship he earned in February of this year.
This marks the fourth medal (second gold and first in the cadet category) for athletes from the Odesa region in the history of youth world championship participation.
