Unexpected Changes in the National Team: Yarmolenko on His Absence in the Nations League

Defender of Dynamo Kyiv, Andriy Yarmolenko, reacted to the decision of the head coach of the Ukraine national team, Serhiy Rebrov, not to call him up for the Nations League matches this fall.

Yarmolenko shared this during a podcast hosted by Denys Boyko.

"Honestly, it was unpleasant, but these things happen in football. I understood that if I wasn’t called up, it means I may not be deserving to be in the national team, and currently, there are players who can deliver better results.

So, of course, after being called up for 15 years, when you are not injured, and suddenly this happens for the first time, any person would be a bit upset.

But what can you do? This is football and life. It’s good; it means I need to work harder, and maybe next time I will be called up. They called me before", Yarmolenko explained.

In March, Yarmolenko returned to the national team and came on as a substitute in the second Nations League playoff match against Belgium (0:3).

This season, the 35-year-old player has scored 10 goals and provided an assist in 30 matches for Dynamo. Recently, he celebrated his 113th goal in the UPL and matched Serhiy Rebrov's record.

Before this, the player spoke about extending his contract with the Kyiv club.
