UN Humanitarian Mission Visits Odesa

In Odesa, a delegation from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is led by the humanitarian coordinator Matthias Schmale.

On October 15, 2024, the delegation members toured the local Center for Social and Psychological Assistance for internally displaced persons, currently housing around 100 residents.

The UN representatives learned about the living conditions and engaged in discussions with the residents and staff of the Center.

The Center features living quarters, a psychologist's office, children's learning and activity rooms, large laundry facilities, a kitchen, a dining area, and an assembly hall.

Regular workshops and activities for children are organized here, while adults have the opportunity to acquire skills and find employment.

According to the staff, charitable organizations and international missions provide comprehensive support to those temporarily residing here.

“We are concerned about the assistance for internally displaced persons. I see that this Center has created comfortable living conditions for those forced to leave their homes. It is among the best in Ukraine,” said Matthias Schmale.

Veronica Etnarovich, advisor to the Odesa mayor on social and humanitarian issues, noted that the possibility of establishing another such Center in Odesa is currently being explored.
