Barrier-Free Movement: Odesa Presented New Solutions

Odesa Presented Its Achievements for the Second Time at the National Meeting Dedicated to the “Barrier-Free Movement” Project

On June 18, 2025, the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine hosted the second national meeting dedicated to the implementation of the important “Barrier-Free Movement” project.

The event was led by Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine’s Reconstruction Oleksiy Kuleba, with the participation of his deputy, Nataliia Kozlovska.

Oleksandr Zhiltsov, Secretary of the Barrier-Free Council under the Odesa City Mayor, presented a report on the progress of the city’s barrier-free action plan and new initiatives being implemented in Odesa. Special attention was given to high-traffic facilities such as hospitals and transport hubs, where creating a barrier-free environment is especially critical.

Odesa is actively implementing inclusive public transport stops, operates a social taxi service, adapts medical facilities, and develops projects to support veterans and people with disabilities.

All barrier-free initiatives in Odesa are being implemented at the initiative of Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov and coordinated by the Barrier-Free Council of the Odesa City Council.

It is worth noting that Odesa is one of the pilot communities participating in the “Barrier-Free Movement” project. This initiative is part of the National Strategy for Creating a Barrier-Free Environment in Ukraine until 2030, implemented under the patronage of First Lady Olena Zelenska.
