Tragic Incident in Bereziv Community: Man Shoots Dog

In a tragic event in the Bereziv community, a man shot his friend's dog using an air rifle. The perpetrator now faces potential imprisonment.

This incident took place in February in one of the villages of the Bereziv community. A local resident heard the dog's whimpering and called the police, discovering the lifeless animal in the neighbors' yard.

Upon investigation, authorities learned that a 25-year-old man from a nearby village had come to visit friends and was drinking alcohol with them. During their conversation, he learned from the owners that their dog was supposedly eating chickens. In retaliation, the guest decided to 'teach' the dog a lesson by retrieving an air rifle from his car and shooting the dog in the eye.

A veterinary forensic examination concluded that the dog died from cerebral edema caused by the gunshot wound.

Police quickly located the perpetrator and confiscated the weapon. It was identified as a single-shot, spring-piston, rifled air rifle with a caliber of 4.5 mm.

Having gathered sufficient evidence, the police informed the suspect of charges related to animal cruelty resulting in the animal's death. Under the Ukrainian Criminal Code, he faces up to three years of imprisonment.

The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Bereziv District Prosecutor's Office.
