World Autism Awareness Day: The Importance of Support

Every year on April 2, the world celebrates World Autism Awareness Day, established by the United Nations in 2007.

This day aims to raise societal awareness of autism, highlight the needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorders, and improve their quality of life. A roundtable discussion titled «Children with Special Needs (Autism Spectrum) in Society» was held at the Community Institution «Center for Rehabilitation of Persons with Psychophysical Developmental Disorders».

The event featured participation from Olena Kytainska, the director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odesa City Council, as well as heads of regional social protection departments and community institution staff.

Experts from the institution shared their experiences working with children with autism, discussing interaction techniques with these children and their families; they addressed challenges related to motor control, hydrotherapy, and cognitive development in preschool children with ASD.

Participants were also shown a musical session focused on developing musical skills among children with autism of various ages.

At the conclusion of the roundtable, attendees expressed gratitude for the informative presentations and suggested hosting an international conference on this topic in Odesa, inviting specialists from education, science, and medicine.
