Arrest of Man for Drug Trafficking and Weapons in Odesa Region
A 37-year-old man has been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and has been placed in custody. He faces up to eight years in prison for his offenses.
Officers from the Odesa District Police № 2 discovered that a resident of the Vygodyanska community was in possession of ammunition and narcotic substances, seeking buyers for them.
During investigative operations, police documented the suspect selling two grenades and a package of narcotic substances, receiving 5500 hryvnias in return.
With the assistance of the regional police's explosive ordnance disposal unit, investigators seized grenade bodies with fuses, which preliminary evaluations indicate are functional military munitions. They also recovered substances confirmed to be narcotics through rapid testing, along with cash.
Additionally, during a sanctioned search of the suspect's residence, law enforcement seized several zip bags containing similar plant materials, packaging equipment, and over a hundred rounds of ammunition. Some of the confiscated items will be sent for expert analysis.
As stated by the head of the Odesa District Police № 2, Andrii Donets, the suspect was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and is currently under suspicion for the illegal acquisition, storage for sale, and illegal sale of narcotic substances (Part 1 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code) as well as the possession, acquisition, and sale of military munitions without legal authorization (Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code).
Upon the request of the investigators, the court has chosen a preventive measure of detention for the suspect. He faces up to eight years in prison for his crime.
All circumstances of the crime, including the supply channels for the “goods” to the suspect, will be established during the investigation. The procedural guidance in the case is being carried out by the Bilyaivka District Prosecutor's Office.
