Mental Health Forum in Ukraine: New Avenues for Support
The resilience of individuals is closely linked to the resilience of systems. This critical message resonated at the Mental Health Forum held from November 26 to 28 in Kyiv. Over three days, experts, government officials, community representatives, and international partners discussed how to establish a modern and effective mental health support system in Ukraine.
The Odesa region actively participated in this dialogue, presenting its contribution to the Nationwide Mental Health Program «How are you?» initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska.
Representing our region at the forum were:
- – Dmytro Radulov, Deputy Head of Odesa Regional State Administration,
- – Anna Velichko, Regional Coordinator of the «How are you?» program in Odesa,
- – Margarita Bespalko, Consultant in the Dobroslav community,
- – Valentina Vitos, Director of the Odesa Regional Center of Ukrainian Culture.
During the forum's opening, Olena Zelenska emphasized: «I thank everyone who, in various sectors, under different circumstances, and with diverse experiences, contributes to a shared mission – wrapping Ukrainians in care and providing them with moral strength. Unfortunately, we cannot heal all wounds. However, we can give each person who suffers a sense of support, understanding, and compassion».
Ukraine is learning from international experiences while simultaneously creating a unique system that meets the challenges of our time.
A particular pride for Odesa is the award received by the Odesa Regional Center of Ukrainian Culture for its active participation in the «How are you?» program.
The forum also showcased a range of services offered by the state to support mental health and discussed new legislative initiatives in this area.
This event was organized with support from the WHO, the Coordination Center of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine / Mental Health UA, as well as partners from the Netherlands, Canada, and France. Ukraine is confidently moving towards establishing a system that cares for every individual.
