The Importance of Early Cancer Diagnosis

Cancer is curable in its early stages: timely diagnosis of oncological diseases enables early detection, increasing the chances of successful treatment and saving lives. The medical guarantee program offers free preventive screenings for everyone, regardless of residence. This is reported by the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU).

Early diagnosis of the most common cancers is a priority and includes free services in six areas:

  • mammography – X-ray examination of the breasts to detect abnormalities;
  • hysteroscopy – examination of the uterus to identify internal pathologies;
  • esophagogastroduodenoscopy – examination of the upper gastrointestinal tract;
  • colonoscopy – study of the intestinal mucosa;
  • cystoscopy – examination of the bladder;
  • bronchoscopy – examination of the respiratory tract.

Kyiv residents, including internally displaced persons, can undergo these examinations in facilities that have contracts with the NHSU. An electronic referral from a doctor is required for this.

Diagnostic studies are also age-dependent: mammography and colonoscopy – from 40 years old, while other examinations – from 50 years old.

Internally displaced persons have access to various services, including anesthesia, consultation with an anesthesiologist, biopsy, and other medical procedures.
