Enhancing Cancer Diagnosis in Odesa
On February 4, 2025, a briefing was held in Odesa in honor of World Cancer Day.
In 2024, nearly 3,500 cases of cancer were registered in Odesa, including 11 children.
In compliance with the President of Ukraine's decree and the National Security Council's decision, the Health Department has improved clinical pathways for patients suspected of having cancer. The main goals are to increase the number of preventive screenings and implement new algorithms for cancer screening.
The Department is actively raising awareness about cancer prevention and early diagnosis. In 2024, almost 30,000 residents of Odesa participated in preventive check-ups, leading to the early detection of cancer in over 100 individuals.
The City Clinical Hospital No. 10 has a chemotherapy unit where 20-30 patients receive treatment daily. A multidisciplinary team of doctors, including oncologists and other specialists, provides comprehensive care. Health Department Director Levo Nikoсяn announced plans to establish oncology departments in all city hospitals.
To facilitate early diagnosis, 14 gynecological offices have been opened in primary healthcare facilities. Special preventive care roadmaps are available via QR codes.
Odesa is implementing a program for free vaccination of children aged 9-14 against the human papillomavirus. Over 3,000 vaccinations have already been administered. Odesa is the only city in Ukraine where vaccination is funded by the city budget.
“In Odesa, accessible cancer prevention and early diagnosis are ensured. All necessary medical equipment is available in healthcare facilities, and check-ups are free. It's important to pay attention to your health by visiting your doctor regularly for examinations.” — emphasized Health Department Director Levo Nikoсяn.
