Beach Access Audits in Odesa: Ensuring Compliance and Inclusivity
The city of Odesa is currently undertaking an audit of rented beach areas to assess compliance with operational rules and ensure public access for all citizens.
As per the mayor's directive, a working group has been established, comprising city officials, representatives from the Barrier-Free Council, and veterans.
The group's primary aim is to evaluate the levels of accessibility, inclusivity, and free access to the beaches.
On August 22, the group inspected the beaches in the Kyiv district. Members checked whether 30% of the rented area was set aside for public use; if there were any illegal barriers or structures obstructing access; compliance with sanitary norms; facilities for persons with disabilities; and free passage along the waterline and between beach sections.
During the inspection, violations were found, including the placement of sun loungers near the water obstructing passage and illegal temporary structures along the waterfront. Renters received notices for immediate rectification of these issues.
Following the audit, a summary of recommendations will be prepared to improve beach accessibility for the upcoming recreational season.
