Gadwalls in the National Park

According to him, seven pairs of gadwalls (lat. Anas strepera) with ducklings were spotted at one of the limans. These birds are rare in our fauna.

"Currently, there are 7 pairs with ducklings of this species. They are very cautious, making it difficult to snap a photo. The mother quickly hid, and the little ones swiftly fled and concealed themselves in the reeds," Rusev wrote.

About Gadwalls

The gadwall is a waterfowl with a modest yet noble appearance. Males have grey bodies with fine patterns, a black rear, and a white wing patch that is noticeable in flight. Females resemble the common mallard but are lighter and have less distinct patterns. The ducklings are fluffy and brownish-yellow in color.

These ducks are extremely timid. When danger approaches, they quickly hide in the grass or reeds.
