A Day of Notable Fires in Odesa Region
In the Odesa region, there were 6 significant fires reported in the past day. Dry grass, shrubbery, windbreaks, hay, buildings, and fields of rapeseed were ablaze across dozens of hectares. The State Emergency Service reported that a substantial number of vehicles and rescuers were involved in the extinguishing efforts.
Near the village of Znamianka in the Berezivka district on July 9, there was a fire in dry grass and shrubs covering an area of 27 hectares during the day. Strong winds complicated the work of the units, which operated under a heightened alert level.
"Firefighters swiftly extinguished the blaze. There were no casualties or injuries. The State Emergency Service mobilized 7 units of equipment and 28 firefighters, while the local community provided 7 units of specialized equipment and 2 pumps," the agency reported.
During the day, outside the village of Lymanske in the Rozdilna district, there was a fire in dry grass and shrubs that covered an area of 8 hectares.
"Rescuers extinguished the fire. No casualties were reported. The cause of the fire was careless handling of fire by an unidentified person. The State Emergency Service deployed 3 units of equipment and 12 firefighters," the statement said.
Outside the village of Sylivka in the Berezivka district, a fire broke out in dry grass, shrubbery, and remnants of hay, affecting an area of 24 hectares, along with a non-residential building covering 100m2.
"During the firefighting efforts, two fields of wheat covering a total of 50 hectares were saved. No casualties were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The State Emergency Service used 3 units of equipment and 12 firefighters, while the local fire team 'Rozkvyt' contributed 1 unit of equipment and 2 personnel, and the local community provided 11 units of specialized equipment and 50 local residents participated," the State Emergency Service stated.
Outside the village of Travneve in the Berezivka district, a fire broke out in dry grass, shrubs, and a rapeseed field covering 17 hectares. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze.
"The cause of the fire and the damages are being determined. No casualties were reported. The State Emergency Service deployed 2 units of equipment and 10 firefighters, with 3 units of specialized equipment from the local community," the statement added.
On July 9, during the day, outside the village of Mykhailivka in the Berezivka district, dry grass and shrubs caught fire in separate spots. Firefighters extinguished the fire over an area of 10 hectares. There were no casualties or injuries.
"The cause of the fire was careless handling of fire by an unidentified person. The State Emergency Service deployed 1 unit of equipment and 4 firefighters, while the local community provided 2 units of equipment and 20 personnel," the agency noted.
Outside the village of Burdynove in the Berezivka district, on July 9, a fire broke out in dry grass and shrubs covering an area of 10 hectares. Firefighters extinguished the fire.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation. No casualties were reported. The State Emergency Service mobilized 4 units of equipment and 14 firefighters, alongside 6 units of specialized equipment from the local community," the State Emergency Service reported.
