New Inclusive Train Car for Enhanced Travel
The new inclusive train car will be available for booking, and in the absence of special requests, the compartments will operate as usual.
Ukrzaliznytsia has completed the modernization of its first experimental passenger car, fully adapted for transporting people in wheelchairs.
This car features 6 sleeping berths in each compartment, providing comfort for two passengers in wheelchairs and two attendants. If inclusive seating is not needed during the journey, it can accommodate 6 travelers.
Key features of the car include:
- Electric lift with a capacity of up to 300 kg;
- Wide doors and corridors for easy movement;
- Navigation in Braille and high-contrast marking;
- Spacious restroom with a shower, SOS button, crutch holder, changing table, and child seat;
- Restroom occupancy indicator;
- Individual USB and Type-C sockets;
- Adjustable reclining seats;
- Separate lighting control in the compartments and at each seat;
- Video surveillance in certain areas of the car.
The car was built at the Bahmach depot. The entire process took three months and was carried out by the company’s specialists.
Before starting the modernization, the Ukrzaliznytsia team consulted organizations specializing in assistance for people with disabilities to ensure that real user needs were addressed.
This car is part of Ukrzaliznytsia's systematic efforts to implement barrier-free solutions in railway transportation. The company is consistently working to ensure the accessibility of both rolling stock and station infrastructure for people with limited mobility.
Ukrzaliznytsia emphasizes that this car is just the first step in a broader program aimed at creating a barrier-free environment on the railways. The company plans to expand similar solutions to make travel comfortable and accessible for all passenger categories.
