Dangerous Play on the Railway: Shocking Incident in Odesa Region
On June 26, a distressing incident occurred at a railway station in the Odesa region involving a minor. A 13-year-old girl climbed onto a stationary freight wagon and sustained injuries from an electric shock.
According to the Odesa region police, the girl was urgently taken to the hospital for medical assistance. Eyewitnesses provided law enforcement with details of the event.
"We once again urge parents to monitor their children's activities and constantly remind them that railways are not places for fun," police officials stated.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding how the girl was injured. They are also determining if anyone will be held accountable for the incident. Railway cars and trains are under high voltage - electricity can strike even without direct contact, simply by being too close.
This year, three tragic incidents have already occurred in the Odesa region: in the city of Odesa and the Podilskyi district, teenagers have died and suffered severe burns after climbing onto stationary wagons.
Victoria Chalova, head of the juvenile prevention department of the National Police in Odesa region, emphasized that even stationary railway infrastructure can pose deadly risks due to high voltage. Electric shocks can occur not only upon contact, sometimes it's enough to come too close.
"Children often imitate what they see on social media. They do not realize that a few thousand likes are not worth the consequences – severe burns, loss of health, or even life," Victoria Chalova warned.
