The Wonders of Coastal Flora in Tuzly Lagoons

Within the National Nature Park “Tuzly Lagoons,” one can discover an extraordinary plant known as sea mustard (Cakile maritima). Currently, it is in full bloom and bearing fruit.

This was reported by Ivan Rusev, a staff member of the park and a doctor of biological sciences.

Sea mustard is notable for its resilience to harsh conditions and its significance in the formation and stabilization of coastal ecosystems. It thrives on beach plains and dunes, providing shelter and food for various animals.

The fruits of sea mustard can float and spread through seawater. The seeds of this plant contain oil that is used both in medicine and as food additives.
