Flag of Hope: A Symbol of the Struggle for Prisoners

Over a hundred stations of Ukrzaliznytsia have raised the black-and-white Flag of Hope.

This flag symbolizes the unyielding faith in the return of our defenders held captive and honors the memory of those who have died. The initiative is implemented in collaboration with Ukrzaliznytsia and the charitable foundation established by Hero of Ukraine Serhiy Volynskyi.

In the early days of the full-scale invasion, the trains of Ukrzaliznytsia witnessed tears and hope, providing temporary refuge for thousands of Ukrainians. It is symbolic that this flag is raised above the railway stations.

«Today, we raise the Flag of Hope to remind everyone: we will not stop until every prisoner and every missing person returns home. The black stripe represents death and loss, while the white stripe signifies hope and relentless struggle. Together, these colors merge into a single canvas—a symbol of the unbreakable fight for every Ukrainian still away from home. Ukraine awaits its fighters, each one held captive by the enemy. The Flag of Hope serves as a daily reminder to the entire country and the world about every Ukrainian prisoner and missing person. This flag will fly until we welcome all our comrades back to our homeland. I am confident that the state will do everything possible to bring each one of them home,» said Hero of Ukraine Serhiy Volynskyi.

«Forty of our railway colleagues are still in captivity, and over four hundred are missing. We believe that each of them will return home. We want to give momentum to this initiative—regardless of whether it is a private business or a state institution—to raise the black-and-white flag in support of all prisoners. Today, these flags fly over a hundred of our stations. We hope to see thousands of them. And then, on a happy and sunny day, we can lower them, because everyone will return,» said Oleksandr Pertzovsky, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.

Join us—unfurl the Flag of Hope, speak about those who await freedom. Let their voices resonate in every heart.

Together, we will bring them home!
