Developing Inclusive Spaces in Odesa
A significant meeting took place today in Odesa, gathering Kyiv experts from the «Barrier-Free Movement» project of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, alongside representatives from city and regional structures, including the city council on accessibility. The meeting was chaired by Alexander Filatov, the first deputy mayor.
As Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov previously noted, Odesa is among the 15 pilot cities participating in the flagship project «Barrier-Free Movement» under the patronage of the First Lady Olena Zelenska.
The project, funded by municipal, regional, and state budgets, aims to create a pedestrian inclusive route in the Peresyp district of Odesa, connecting social and infrastructure facilities to the «North-South» tram line.
This route will extend along Prince Volodymyr Great Avenue, starting from the intersection with Kishinivska Street to the intersection with Ak. Zabolotnoho Street and further to the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital, including access to the CNAP on Davyd Oistrakh Street.
The designated area will feature barrier-free elements: pedestrian paths, ramps, adapted public transport stops, parking spaces, and information systems to facilitate mobility for people with disabilities.
Currently, work is being coordinated with a team of experts, involving direct inspections of the reconstruction sites.
Additionally, the working group with Kyiv experts visited Odesa's coastline to review the progress on establishing an inclusive beach and several social infrastructure projects.
