Panel Discussion on Memory: The Holocaust and Its Lessons

At the Odesa Museum of Genocide «Territory of Memory», a panel discussion titled «Babi Yar – Lessons from World War II» took place, supported by the Odesa Center for Professional Development of Educators.

This event, aimed at social studies teachers, focused on significant issues regarding the teaching of the Holocaust and genocides and the preservation of historical memory in our city.

The discussion began with a video message from the director of the National Historical and Cultural Preserve «Babi Yar», Roza Tapanova (Kyiv), emphasizing the importance of studying the tragedy of Babi Yar for modern Ukraine and the world.

Philosophy PhD and esteemed cultural figure Pavel Kozlenko highlighted the crucial role of social studies teachers in shaping the historical consciousness of youth and combating intolerance.

The discussion centered on practical aspects of handling sensitive historical topics in educational settings. Participants learned from successful experiences of Odesa colleagues in museum pedagogy.

Best practices for preserving the memory of the victims of World War II and the Holocaust were presented by educators from Odesa Lyceums No. 56, 62, and the Law Lyceum.

Participants actively exchanged experiences, shared challenges they face in their work, and received valuable practical advice on integrating Holocaust themes into contemporary education.
