New Grain Terminal Planned for Port

A new grain terminal is expected to open at the Pivdenny port in 2026, with an annual capacity of 5 million tons.

This was reported by Latifundist.com.

The "Epitsentr" group of companies, in partnership with the family of MP Anatoliy Urbansky, is planning to build a terminal for grain handling. According to the project documentation, the expected cargo turnover will be 5 million tons annually, with a total storage capacity of 250,000 tons.

In 2025, "Casablanca Shipping Limited" (Cyprus), founded by "Epitsentr K", acquired 32.61% of "Promtekhinnovatsiya" (Odesa). The remaining 16.48% shares belong to Igor Urbansky, while Kateryna and Denys Urbansky each hold 25.46% shares.

According to last year's project, "Promtekhinnovatsiya" is leasing land plots in the waters of the Pivdenny port and near the local road T1606. The total area for construction is around 32 hectares.

This area will be sufficient for the construction of a rail and truck unloading station near the road, after which the grain will be transported to silos and the terminal.

Plans also include building a railway station with a capacity of up to 3 million tons per year, capable of handling up to five freight trains daily. The land allocated for this station covers 10 hectares. Additionally, an unloading station for trains is planned with a productivity of 2,000 tons/hour and a truck unloading station with a productivity of 1,000 tons/hour.

A conveyor gallery, 1600 meters long and with a capacity of 1200 tons/hour, will connect the unloading station with the main elevators, where the grain will be stored in about 50 silos with a total capacity of 250,000 tons spread over a 10-hectare area.

The project also includes constructing a pier up to 350 meters long and 16 meters deep. Two tower cranes with a productivity of 1,500 tons/hour will be used for agricultural product transshipment. All equipment for unloading, transporting, storing, and handling grain will belong to "Promtekhinnovatsiya".

According to port workers familiar with the construction progress, the project is being successfully implemented, and the terminal is scheduled to open in 2026. Despite its technical complexity, construction is on track for timely completion.

Several sources indicate that the idea of building such a terminal represents a beneficial alliance of two businesses. On one side is a large agribusiness with its own grain and substantial working capital, and on the other, a family of entrepreneurs with access to maritime waters but without their own agricultural production.

The agricultural assets of the largest non-food retailer in the country, "Epitsentr K", are consolidated under the "Epitsentr Agro" network, which has been actively developing since 2015.

During this time, the holding has expanded its land bank to 170,000 hectares, elevator capacities to 2 million tons, and its own agricultural production to 1 million tons. This year they also launched their own trading, and the only step left to create a steady flow of grain from the field to foreign consumers is to build their own grain transshipment facility.
