Italian Parliamentarians Visit Odesa
The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, met with a group of Italian parliamentarians led by Deputy Speaker Giorgio Mulè. The meeting also included the Ambassador of Italy to Ukraine, Carlo Formosa.
During the dialogue, it was emphasized that Italy supports the restoration of Odesa, with parliamentarians visiting to familiarize themselves with the city and its landmarks, as well as to assess the extent of the destruction and identify specific recovery needs. This will help them understand what resources and support are necessary for effective reconstruction.
The parties also discussed potential areas for attracting investments, specifically highlighting culture as a key opportunity. Italians believe that history should not be erased, regardless of its nature.
«History evolves, and we must grow with it, embracing all its facets. In Italy, many operas were written during the fascist era, and buildings were constructed. That doesn’t mean we should avoid or demolish them. Art belongs to the world!» - expressed Mr. Mulè.
The Italian deputies expressed solidarity with the mayor and the people of Odesa in preserving their heritage, which has contributed to Odesa being recognized as a UNESCO City of Literature.
