Ukrainian Film Festival in Riga: New Horizons
From October 10 to 12, 2025, the fifth anniversary festival «Days of Ukrainian Cinema in Latvia» took place in Riga, marking an important milestone in cultural diplomacy between Ukraine and Latvia.
The festival was organized with support from the State Agency of Ukraine for Cinema and the Charitable Foundation ChF "Doors", along with the NGO «International Association for the Development and Support of Ukrainian Culture» and the Latvian organization «DijaTi».
This year, the festival was particularly special as it hosted a round table entitled «Prospects for the Development of Ukrainian Cinema and Co-production with European Filmmakers», bringing together representatives from both countries' cultural and educational sectors.
The festival continued with screenings of Ukrainian films, allowing filmmakers to present their works in person.
The chairperson of the «Odesa Film Studio» Anna Docheva showcased the film «Why I Am Alive» directed by Vilēns Novaks, which has become a significant part of modern Ukrainian cinema history.
During the festival, Walters Kagainis was awarded the «Legends of Odesa Film Studio» award for his substantial contribution to the development of Ukrainian cinema and collaboration with Odesa Film Studio.
Screenings took place at the Ksuns/Kinogalerija cinema and the Ukrainian House in Latvia (Ukrainas māja Latvijā).
