Mobilization of Healthcare Workers: New Government Initiatives
The government of Ukraine has launched a new phase of mobilization for healthcare workers, as part of its strategy to bolster national defense. This was announced by Health Minister Viktor Lyashko during a press briefing.
“We are currently implementing the first phase: the Medical Forces Command has reached out to the Ministry of Defense regarding the mobilization of medical personnel. The Ministry of Defense has sent us a request for the number of healthcare workers needed,” he stated.
According to the official website of the Ministry of Health, necessary consultations have already been conducted with regional health departments.
Viktor Lyashko emphasized that this decision will facilitate the rotation of medical personnel who will be called to serve in the Armed Forces.
It is worth mentioning that in early 2025, the government allowed the exemption of 100% of healthcare workers from state and communal facilities engaged in health-related activities.
Previously, medical institutions could only exempt up to 50% of conscripted men, but this restriction has now been lifted.
However, the minister pointed out that during wartime, all healthcare workers in Ukraine are considered conscripted, and the exemption process is merely conditional.
