Remembering the Remarkable Athlete Sergey Olizarenko
On December 18, 2024, we bid farewell to Ukrainian athlete Sergey Olizarenko, a participant in the 1980 Summer Olympic Games.
During the 1980 Olympics, Sergey competed in the 3000 meters steeplechase. He secured third place in the semifinals with a time of 8:34.2, qualifying for the finals, but unfortunately, he could not compete in the final race due to an Achilles tendon injury.
Sergey was married to Olympic champion Nadia Olizarenko.
The City Council of Odessa and the local sports community extend their heartfelt condolences to Sergey Olizarenko's family and loved ones on their loss.
The farewell ceremony for Sergey Olizarenko will take place on December 21, 2024: at 10:30 AM – a memorial service at the Holy Assumption Cathedral (70 Preobrazhenska St.), at 12:00 PM - cremation at the Tairovsky cemetery crematorium.
