Ukrainian Fencer Wins Bronze at World Championship

Alina Komashchuk from Odessa has claimed a bronze medal at the World Fencing Championship taking place in Tbilisi (Georgia).

The 32-year-old athlete from the Odessa Regional School of Higher Sports Mastery «Olimpiyets» began her journey to the medal from the round of 32, defeating the German fencer Elisabeth Gette (15:7). In the round of 16, she faced a loss against the Chinese fencer Fu Yin (15:6), but in the quarter-finals, she triumphed over the reigning world champion Misaki Emura from Japan (15:12). In the semi-finals, Alina was defeated by the Polish representative Zuzanna Czeslar (12:15).

This is Alina Komashchuk's first individual medal at world championships.

The athlete was trained by coach Oleksandr Vasyutin.
