Honor for Humanitarian Efforts
Mariluise Beck, a prominent German politician and director of the Center for Liberal Modernity focusing on Eastern and Central Europe, has been awarded the honorary recognition by the Mayor of Odessa «ODESSA» for her outstanding humanitarian work, support for Odessa’s residents during wartime, and strengthening of international cooperation.
Her initiative led to the creation of the memorial project «Against Forgetting» on Lustdorf Road, a site where over 25,000 individuals, primarily of Jewish and Romani descent, were burned alive in 1941.
A grant of one million euros was successfully secured for this project. However, due to the war, the work had to be postponed, and the funds redirected to humanitarian needs within the city.
As a result, Odessa received vehicles, specialized equipment, generators, medical supplies, and other critically important resources.
The city administration expresses gratitude for the support and hopes for the realization of pre-war projects and ongoing collaboration for Odessa’s development.
