Protecting Teens: New Campaign Against Train Surfing

The Juvenile Police of Ukraine, in collaboration with Ukrzaliznytsia, is launching a new initiative to combat the dangerous activity known as train surfing.

Teens, in search of thrills, climb onto train roofs, cling to moving trains, and run across tracks in prohibited areas.

This is not extreme sports. This is a serious threat to their lives and health: potential injuries, amputations, and electric shock.

From April 10 to May 10, 2025, a joint preventive campaign by the Juvenile Police of Ukraine and Ukrzaliznytsia will take place.
During the month:

  • we will visit schools and vocational institutions
  •
  • we will communicate with children in an open and accessible manner
  •
  • together with specialists, we will explain why the railway is not a place for games!

What to do if you witness dangerous behavior by children on the railway?

If you are at a station or platform and see children who:

  • are trying to climb onto a train
  •
  • are already on the roof
  •
  • are playing near the tracks

 Act immediately, but carefully.

Notify the station officer or any railway worker.

Call the police (102) or the emergency services (101) — they will respond quickly.

Warn or call out to children who are planning to surf or are already outside of the passenger train.

Document the incident and the individuals involved — this will aid in identification and informing parents.

Be attentive to your children. Talk to them about the real risks!
