Honoring Volunteers in Ukraine

On March 14th, Ukraine honors volunteers – individuals who, despite not being military professionals, took up arms voluntarily during critical moments to protect their country.

This date was chosen for a reason. It was on March 14, 2014, that the first volunteers departed from Maidan to a training base in Novi Petrivtsi to prepare for the fight for Ukraine's territorial integrity.

Today, our state is facing its greatest trial in modern history – an armed struggle against the Russian aggressor for its independence and territorial integrity. As always in the toughest times, brave warriors of goodwill rise to defend their homeland - symbols of courage, self-sacrifice, and heroism.

In honor of Volunteer Day, a flower-laying ceremony took place in Odesa at the Memorial to Fighters for Ukraine in the Square of Glory and Freedom.

Throughout March, educational institutions and libraries will host cultural, artistic, and educational activities on this theme.

The decision to commemorate Volunteer Day was made by Resolution No. 1822 of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 17, 2017, to strengthen the patriotic spirit in society and raise public attention and care for the participants of volunteer formations.
