Breast Cancer Prevention Day Held in Odesa
Last week, Odesa hosted an important event dedicated to the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer. This initiative was organized with the support of the Odesa City Health Department and the Odesa Health Center, coinciding with the nationwide day of awareness for breast cancer.
Women had the opportunity to undergo free clinical breast examinations and receive consultations from family doctors, therapists, surgeons, and oncologists. Additionally, physicians from diagnostic centers conducted mammograms and ultrasounds without prior electronic referrals.
According to the results, a total of 1822 women underwent preventive mammology examinations. There were 669 referrals created for mammograms and 388 for ultrasounds. 170 women were referred for additional consultations with mammologists.
On the day of the event, 97 women received free mammographic examinations on a self-referral basis, which led to the timely detection of 8 cases suspected of breast cancer, all of whom were referred for further consultations and examinations at specialized medical facilities.
Remember! Women over 40 should have screening mammograms annually, even in the absence of complaints or symptoms. Timely diagnostics help detect precancerous conditions and malignant tumors at early stages.
Odesa's medical facilities have been equipped with modern mammography machines funded by the city budget, and a unique Family Health Center has been established at Consultative-Diagnostic Center No. 6 for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
In Odesa, mammography can be performed free of charge with a referral from a family or specialized doctor at the following addresses:
