Odessa's Collaboration with UITP: New Transport Horizons

The Mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, held an important meeting with Mr. Mohamed Mezghani, the Secretary General of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), during the largest global transport exhibition, InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin.

In discussing the challenges that the city has faced in recent years, participants focused on the need to upgrade electric transport and buses, the increased burden on the transport system due to rising passenger numbers, and the importance of inclusion, transitioning to cashless payments, and risks associated with blackouts.

Mr. Mezghani expressed his support and readiness to assist Odessa in addressing transport challenges. He emphasized that UITP brings together more than 1900 members from over 100 countries, including city administrations, operating organizations, and transport operators.

Following the discussions, it was decided that Odessa would submit a request for upgrading its bus fleet, and UITP would assist in implementing this initiative through humanitarian aid.

Additionally, the parties agreed to participate in a joint stand for the cities of Odessa and Hamburg at the upcoming UITP Summit in Hamburg next year.
