Accessibility Initiatives in Odesa: New Developments
The city of Odesa is actively developing barrier-free routes as part of a national initiative. During the Cabinet of Ministers meeting on August 20, a resolution was approved that establishes clear guidelines for planning and creating barrier-free transport and pedestrian pathways.
This document streamlines the process and paves the way for expanding the initiative nationwide. Currently, there are 15 communities participating in the pilot project called “Movement Without Barriers” led by the Ministry of Development. The routes are being designed in collaboration with local authorities, architects, facility managers, and civic organizations.
The Ministry of Development coordinates the process. Odesa consistently ranks among the leaders in implementing these measures.
During an online meeting chaired by the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba, the progress of the project in Odesa was discussed, particularly the updates to the barrier-free route signage and the alignment of the technical project documentation for its initial phase.
“In collaboration with the ministry and relevant experts, the city is steadily advancing towards the implementation of modern barrier-free solutions that make Odesa more accessible for everyone,” noted Acting Deputy Mayor Serhiy Kotsyuba.
