Conservation of the Roller in the Lower Dniester National Park
In the Lower Dniester National Park resides the roller (Coracias garrulus) – a bird of extraordinary beauty with stunning blue feathers. Unfortunately, this species is on the brink of extinction due to deforestation, shoreline development where they nest, pesticide use, and changes in their habitat, leaving these rare birds without homes and food.
This was reported on the official page of the National Park.
However, despite the challenges, it is still possible to encounter rollers in the National Park in Odesa region. They can still be seen flying over the Karahol Bay.
“Perhaps you will be lucky enough to witness it – a symbol of light and strength amidst today's challenges,” – state the officials on the National Park's page.
The roller is protected by the Red Book of Ukraine, the Bern and Bonn Conventions, and the EU Directives.
