Police Rescue Four Children Left Alone in Odesa Region
In the Odesa region, law enforcement officers, alongside rescuers, freed four children left alone at home by their mother for an extended period. The woman had previously faced legal issues for failing to fulfill her parental duties.
According to the National Police press service, the incident occurred on July 9 around 5:00 PM in the city of Kodima. During a check on the living conditions of children in difficult circumstances, a family was visited where a 28-year-old woman raises four sons aged 11 months to 9 years. The apartment door was locked. The children informed through the window that their mother had not been home since the previous evening.
Emergency responders were called to the scene to open the door, and an ambulance, accompanied by social workers and a juvenile officer, took the children to a medical facility for examination. Their health is not at risk.
“The woman has previously been held administratively responsible for failing to fulfill her parental duties in 2021, 2023, and 2024. According to our documentation, the court imposed fines on her, which she paid. Regarding yesterday's incident, the mother returned home when the boys were already with us. We have drawn up a protocol under part 1 of Article 184 of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses. The maximum penalty that the court can impose is a fine of 1700 hryvnias. We have also again appealed to the child protection service to consider the issue of removing the boys and revoking the woman’s parental rights,” reported Lyudmila Bubernko, deputy head of police activity department No. 1 of the Podilskyi district police department.
