Exhibition on Ecosystems: Beauty and Threat

On April 24, an extraordinary photo exhibition exploring the beauty and vulnerability of our planet will open at the «Dialogues» gallery located at 2 Soborna Square in Odesa.

This was announced by the National Antarctic Scientific Center.

The exhibition is a joint Ukrainian-Peruvian project titled «Planet on the Grill: Vulnerable Worlds of Antarctica and the Amazon». It features photos from two extremes of temperature: the hot Amazonian forests and the icy Antarctica.

The exhibition consists of 36 photographs displayed in pairs, highlighting the many similarities between the seemingly different Amazon and Antarctica: human impact on nature, vulnerable species, and incredible beauty.

The Amazon photos were taken by Freddy F. Ramírez, a researcher at the National University of the Peruvian Amazon, with most images captured in 2024.

The Antarctic photographs were taken by Ukrainian photographers who worked on the icy continent between 2019 and 2024.

Scientists note that both types of ecosystems are undergoing irreversible changes. Record drought in the Amazonian rainforests and melting glaciers in Antarctica represent «symptoms» of the same illness — climate change.

The images will showcase the current state of ecosystems and how local plants and animals respond to these changes.

The exhibition opens on April 24 at 6:00 PM at the «Dialogues» gallery on Soborna Square, 2.

The event will be attended by the director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center, Yevhen Dykhiy.

The venue is located in a basement, ensuring safety.

The exhibition will run until May 3. Admission is free.
