Winter Preparedness: New Measures for Road Safety

To enhance road safety during winter conditions, the Municipal Enterprise «City Roads» is implementing a series of new measures.

Traditionally, in November, the cleaning of urban streets is completed, and the machinery is prepared for the winter season. Tanks are removed from washing machines and replaced with sand and salt spreaders.

Winter equipment is being installed, and most of the machinery is equipped with snow plows for snow removal operations. All equipment undergoes inspection and preventive maintenance. After the preparation is complete, the performance of the specialized machinery will be tested on the company's premises.

The Municipal Enterprise «City Roads» has at its disposal: snowplows, sand spreaders, graders, excavators, and other specialized vehicles. During the 2024-2025 winter season, 104 units of equipment and 560 workers will be involved in snow removal and ice control operations. As of November 4, 37 units of equipment are already prepared for use. All preparations are expected to be completed by the end of November.

Additionally, the enterprise is stockpiling anti-icing sand-salt mixtures. In case of worsening weather conditions, 11,860 tons of reagents are available for treating road surfaces.

The Municipal Enterprise «City Roads» has developed 17 routes for snow removal equipment to ensure quick clearing of roads from snow and ice. Separately, 54 routes are planned for spreading reagents on streets to reduce road hazards during icy conditions.

From December 1, 2024, the traditional round-the-clock duty of the Municipal Enterprise «City Roads» teams will commence to respond promptly to worsening weather conditions. Duty rooms are prepared, and the staff operating the machinery are provided with winter clothing.
