Arrest of Odessa Man for Crimes Against a Minor

A 47-year-old resident of Odessa, previously convicted of various crimes, has faced new charges under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He is currently in custody.

This information was provided by the police.

In July of last year, a local woman reported to the police about a sexual assault committed against her 15-year-old daughter by an unknown man.

Police discovered that the perpetrator, while intoxicated, approached the girl on the street and offered to guide her through a shortcut to the city center. He lured her to an isolated location and assaulted her in an abandoned building, which the girl later reported to her mother.

Within a few hours, law enforcement identified the perpetrator as a 47-year-old man, previously convicted of theft and robbery.

Authorities located the man and, during a search of his residence, seized a banned psychotropic substance, 4-MMC (4-methylmethcathinone), which he had purchased for personal use.

The offender was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The court has placed him in preventive detention.

«During the pre-trial investigation, which was conducted under the supervision of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office of Odessa, police gathered sufficient evidence, including forensic examination results, based on which charges were brought against him under part 3 of Article 153 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – sexual assault against a minor without consent, and part 1 of Article 309 for illegal possession of psychotropic substances», - stated investigator Valeria Buliga.

The investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court. The offender faces up to seven years in prison.
