International Museum Day 2025: Celebrating Cultural Heritage

On May 18, 2025, the world celebrated International Museum Day — an important event that has highlighted the role of museums in preserving cultural values, education, and fostering dialogue between generations for over forty years.

In more than 40 countries, the «Night of Museums» took place — an annual initiative transforming cultural institutions into spaces for dialogue, art, and openness.

Over 3,000 museums participated in the event, keeping their doors open late into the night and offering special programs for visitors: from exhibitions to performances, night screenings, and immersive experiences.

The theme for this year's celebration was «The Future of Museums in Changing Communities» — a response to the challenges of our times.

Despite the ongoing war, Ukrainian museums continue their vital work. Exhibitions honoring the memory of those lost, preserving national heritage in times of conflict, and artistic initiatives about recovery and inner strength have become integral to museum life in 2025.

This year, the Odesa Municipal Museum of Personal Collections named after O. V. Bleschunov joined the «Night of Museums» with a special event: the opening of the exhibition «Connection» by artist Sofia Golubeva. The project explores the theme of female solidarity in the context of war — through texts, images, and personal stories.

«This is not just an exhibition about women's experiences — it's an attempt to find a new language of intimacy when old words no longer suffice,» says Sofia Golubeva.

Complementing the event was an author's lecture by the artist. Sofia Golubeva shared insights into the creation of the project, which reflects delicate yet powerful art born from experiences of loss, love, and shared crisis.

On May 24 at 2:30 PM, the artist will conduct a painting workshop titled «Figure in Water,» open to everyone interested. During the workshop, participants will explore how to depict a figure in water — through light, shadow, and reflection.

The exhibition «Connection» will be open for visits until June 8.

The museum operates from Thursday to Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Museum address: Polish St. 19 (entrance from the courtyard).
