20 Years of Achievement: Climbing School in Odesa Celebrates Anniversary

On March 30, 2025, the Specialized Children's and Youth Sports School of Olympic Reserve for Climbing in Odesa celebrated its 20th anniversary.

This school is the first and only specialized climbing school in Ukraine. Over the past twenty years, through the dedication of trainers and athletes, the school has achieved high recognition and has become a specialized Olympic reserve school.

Throughout its existence, the school has trained nearly 1,000 athletes, including multiple champions and medalists of world and European championships. Among its graduates are three masters of sports of international class (Anastasia Savisko, Konstantin Pavlenko, Grigory Ilchishin) and 21 masters of sports of Ukraine.

Present at the celebration were Odesa City Council Secretary Igor Koval, Honorary Citizen of Odesa Valentin Simonenko, a representative from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Maxim Chankivskyi, the head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Odesa City Council Ruslan Puzdrach, and other distinguished guests and parents.

During the festivities, director Lyubov Zymova was awarded a Gratitude from the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

Before the celebration, participants had the opportunity to view displays that showcased the school’s journey over the past 20 years.

Sport climbing is an Olympic sport on artificial terrain, derived from traditional climbing and is relatively new to the Olympic program. It includes three disciplines: lead climbing, speed climbing, and bouldering.
