Empowering Women: The Ukrainian Conference
Alongside the Ukrainian Women's Congress in Kyiv, the conference titled «The Women's Movement Unites All Women» is taking place in Odesa, marking the 140th anniversary of the women's movement in Ukraine.
The Mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov, welcomed attendees, highlighting the significant role of contemporary women in military, political, and societal realms. He also emphasized the importance of women in preserving the traditions and culture of our city.
Sabine Fraser Gunes, head of the UN Women Ukraine office, spoke about the support of the United Nations for the movement and the desire to enhance cooperation:
"We recognize that women in Ukraine are free in their actions. For instance, last year women established every second new business in Ukraine. Women are taking on incredible roles, filling in for men who are fighting at the front. Additionally, we currently see around 60 thousand women serving in the Security and Defense Forces."
The event brought together historians, activists, military personnel, representatives of international organizations, economists, and gender experts.
Key topics of the conference include the historical context of the women's movement in Ukraine and Odesa, challenges and achievements of women in modern society, as well as leadership and rebuilding Ukraine after the war.
