Issues with Major Apps Due to AWS Outages
On the morning of October 20th, numerous major applications and websites unexpectedly began to experience operational issues. According to Independent,
DownDetector reported problems with Snapchat, Roblox, Fortnite, Duolingo, and Canva.
The disruptions started around 10 AM Kyiv time, which corresponds to midnight Pacific Time.
Initial reports indicate that the issues are linked to problems within Amazon Web Services (AWS), which supports a significant portion of today's online services.
The company has already acknowledged an "increase in error rates" and delays affecting "several AWS services".
AWS provides a wide range of internet infrastructure services that allow businesses to rent computers and servers for their applications and websites.
Thus, any issues in AWS can rapidly impact a large part of the Internet, causing dysfunction in websites that might not have any direct relation to Amazon.
Currently, AWS is the leading provider of such cloud services worldwide.
Last year, the company generated $108 billion, and it accounts for a substantial portion of Amazon's profits.
Amazon Web Services stated that they are still investigating the root causes of the issues.
"Engineers have been immediately involved and are actively working to resolve the problems and fully understand their root cause," the company's latest update reads.
