Green Guardians of Odessa: Municipal Efforts
Every day, around 180 employees of KP «Miskzelentrest» are at work in the city. They maintain the cleanliness of green areas, care for trees and flower beds, address the aftermath of storms, plant young trees, and decorate the city with flowers.
Since the beginning of the year, the workers of KP «Miskzelentrest» have pruned 81187 rose bushes and performed formative pruning on 464 weeping ornamental trees.
On the assigned territories, the employees have sown lawn grasses over an area of 18723 sq. m. They have weeded flower beds covering 164183 sq. m. A total of 2519 dry tree branches have been removed. Additionally, random litter has been cleared from an area of 42988 ha, and 164.68 cubic meters of branches, leaves, and debris have been cleaned from lawns.
Traditionally, with the arrival of spring, the greenkeepers of KP «Miskzelentrest» begin creating floral arrangements. This year, 2880 sq. m of spring flower beds were planted with seedlings (daisies, selena, violets, and others). Once the spring flowers fade, they are replaced with summer blooms. A total of 4117 sq. m of summer flower beds were created from seedlings (salvia, tagetes, geraniums, cineraria, ageratum, coleus, and others). Moreover, 41476 perennial plants (chrysanthemums, miscanthus, yucca, hydrangeas, irises, euonymus, and others) have been planted.
Last summer, the city was adorned with 88 vertical flower bowls.
All the flower seedlings for spring and summer flower beds, as well as flowers for vertical landscaping, are cultivated by the specialists of KP «Miskzelentrest» in their own greenhouses of the «Rose» enterprise.
Furthermore, «Miskzelentrest» continues its work on greening the streets, parks, and squares of the city. In 2024, a total of 3246 trees were planted (3102 deciduous trees: maple, ash, acacia, sophora, catalpa, chestnut, soap tree; 144 conifers: thuja, juniper, pine), along with 3104 shrubs: lilac, mahonia, cotoneaster, privet, barberry).
The planting took place across all city districts. All planted trees are over 10 years old and of considerable size, which significantly increases their chances of survival in an urban environment.
The enterprise is also engaged in ongoing repairs of park furniture, children's and sports playgrounds located in the parks and squares of Odessa.
To keep the city's green spaces healthy and appealing, the workers regularly dismantle advertising signs that are affixed to trees in parks and squares. Typically, these signs are nailed to trees with metal spikes, complicating their removal and leading to various plant diseases.
