Expansion of Traffic Monitoring Systems in Odesa
To improve road safety in Odesa, there are plans to increase the number of stationary monitoring systems.
Following a joint analysis of accident hotspots conducted by representatives from the National Police, the Odesa City Council Transport Department, and other relevant institutions, four new locations have been identified for the installation of automatic violation detection cameras.
New monitoring points include:
- the intersection of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi Street and Protsenka Street, as well as Brodska Street. Two cameras will be installed here: one to capture oncoming traffic and another for traffic in the direction of Roman Shukhevych Street. In 2024, this location recorded 5 accident cases with injuries;
- the intersection of Heavenly Hundred Avenue and Shkilnyi Aerodrome Street: two cameras will monitor traffic towards Levitan Street (both ways). Over the past three years, there have been 12 accident cases with injuries;
- the intersection of Lustdorf Road and Breus Street: one camera will capture oncoming traffic towards Admiral Avenue. This location has also recorded 12 accident cases with injuries;
- the 3rd station of Lustdorf Road: one camera will monitor oncoming traffic towards Heroes of Kruty Street. In the last three years, there have been 9 accident cases with injuries.
The installation of cameras has been approved by the relevant authorities of the National Police and complies with the requirements of the functioning order of the auto-fixation system, as approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Resolution No. 833.
The decision to expand the camera network will soon be presented to the Odesa City Council for consideration. It is expected that the new devices will help reduce the number of accidents and improve driver discipline on the city's roads.
